A few weeks ago I decided to order some Topps Now cards again, more specifically the ones from the Monza Grand Prix.

These days I only buy them for special occasions, and we sure had some special occasions!

Nyck de Vries

The main reason I ordered them is because of the magnificent P9 result from Nyck de Vries, who was called up very late to substitute for Alex Albon after Albon suffered a case of appendicitis after FP2.

And I had a surprise as well! I got lucky enough to receive a /99 parallel card as an extra!

Then when I checked the prices on eBay I got another surprise again, because the regular copies are selling for $15 already! Click here to view the latest sales. Undoubtedly the reason for that is De Vries joining AlphaTauri for 2023, and it being the ultimate rookie card with no other cards having been printed in the 2020 and 2021 sets because he wasn’t on the grid in those years.

And that is a really good theoretical return for a card for which I paid only $4 each! The $4 each is possible because I buy them per 20 directly from Topps, which costs me $80. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for De Vries and where this card will end up at, I will definitely hold his cards for a while!

Felipe Drugovich

I initially didn’t plan on ordering cards of Felipe Drugovich, but since I was already buying De Vries cards I figured why not add 20 more, and there is only one Formula 2 champion card each year after all. And as can be seen below it was not a bad decision!

Again I was lucky enough to get rewarded with a /99 parallel! For reference, on almost 50% of my orders I manage to hit a /99 parallel, so it is not exactly surprising to get one, but I’m always very grateful to receive them.

I’m not sure if it will be a good investment, but we’ll just have to see what the future brings, he joined the Aston Martin Driver Development Programme so he still has his eyes set on Formula 1 at least.
